History The Toolleen hotel was built in 1873 by John Speirs. At the time the hotel was said to be one of the state's finest in a country town. Toolleen was a bustling town supporting heavy road traffic between Heathcote the Goldfields & Echuca also having an active gold mine. The hotel remained in the Spiers family until 1941 and since has had several owners until being taken over by current proprietor Jim Webb in 1999 who has completed extensive renovations to the hotel but has also ensured that it has not lost its historic country charm.
